80's of Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs was from the start a fashion legend, a prodigy of mythical talent and triumph who attained success and authority. The legend is indisputably true, but the clothing tells a similar and instructive story in which a special genius is realized—encyclopedic in its sources, poignantly romantic, remarkably sophisticated, and yet impudent and joyous. Through a succession of labels and collections, Jacobs has consistently demonstrated a strong personal sensibility and has altered the history of clothing forever.

Jacobs' first collection was hand-knit sweaters produced by Charivari, the New York clothing store where he worked as stock boy. Fatefully, those sweaters earned him the Perry Ellis Golden Thimble award at Parsons. Upon graduation in 1984, he designed Sketchbook for Ruben Thomas through the fall of 1985. There he created a memorable collection based on the film Amadeus. In 1986 he began designing his own label, first with backing from Jack Atkins and later from Onward Kashiyama. In late 1988, Jacobs was named vice president for womenswear at Perry Ellis, succeeding Patricia Pastor, who had worked with and succeeded Ellis. Along the way, there were Homeric afflictions and distress, ranging from a major theft at the Ruben Thomas showroom to a fire that gutted his Kashiyama studio and destroyed his fall 1988 collection and fabrics two months before showings. The appointment at Perry Ellis was, of course, only another trial for the 25-year-old designer. Jacobs, however, made a great critical success of Perry Ellis, reinstilling the firm with the bountiful energy and excitement of its founder.

In this collection, we may find Yves Saint Laurent's Ballets Russes collection redux. There was the prairie skirt, gingham shirt, plaid sash that winked at both the frontier West and Marc Jacobs' own grunge collection for Perry Ellis, metallic motorcycle jacket, and straw hat, chunky necklace, and quilted chain-link bag. Mixing the electric colors were the peaked-shouldered black jackets and vests worn with wide-leg trousers cropped below the knee. All there details give a feeling of African Naiton Feeling (非洲民族風情). Below show YSL's Ballets Russes collection in 1976, which is really similar to Marc Jacobs' S/S 09.

In 2009, we are suffering from Financial Tsunami and in Marc Jacobs' 09 Fall Winter collection, Jacobs inspired from the 80's. It is an extraordinary show of extremes and exaggeration, and it is full of 80’s flashback. Marc Jacobs tries to express his eager to the prosperous economy in the past. Besides, from the model’s look, and color used Marc Jacobs tries to against Economic downturn.

The above outfit, the model's hair was shellacked into hair-defying shapes and her eye makeup was bold strokes of color that extend into the hairline giving the feeling of STRONG WOMEN, COOL, and MASCULINITY. It shows how Jacobs wants women to be strong and stand firm. On the other hand, this outfit used Achromatic Color Scheme, which Jacobs used 16 times in this collection, to project the men side of women.

The above outfit, the model's shoulder was in linebacker proportions and the colors used were electric, acidic. The proportion of the shoulder was similar to 80's, and this collection has a little exaggerate on it. Jacobs not only want to shows his eager towards 80's by the details of shoulder, but also used the electric colors to call the women be strong.

Achromatic Color Scheme is used and it project the feeling of cool, masculinity and strong.

Complimentary Color Scheme is used which giving a strong feeling of "STAND FIRM! LADIES!"
