Born: New York City, New York, 1963.


Education: Graduated from Parsons School of Design, New York, 1984.


Career:

1984-85: Designer, Sketchbook label, for Ruben Thomas Inc., New York,

1986-88: designed his first collection with Marc Jacobs label,

1989: Jacobs and business partner Duffy joined Perry Ellis as vice president for womenswear,

1993: Jacobs and Duffy launched their own licensing and design company: Marc Jacobs International Company, L.P.

from 1994: head designer, Perry Ellis, New York, 1989-93, Marc Jacobs,

1996: Marc Jacobs Look, distributed by Mitsubishi and Renown Look,

1997: opened Marc Jacobs Boutique in SoHo, New York,

from 1997: artistic director, Louis Vuitton,

2000: designed Stain Boy t-shirt to benefit Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation,

2001: introduced the secondary line, Marc by Marc Jacobs, line of mid-priced spoertswear,


Awards:

1984: Parsons School of Design Perry Ellis Golden Thimble award,

1987: Council of Fashion Designers of America Perry Ellis award,

1992, 1998: Womenswear Designer of the Year award.
