Marc Jacobs 2003

SPRING 2003

Hard and soft, past and present, good girl and bad girl—Marc Jacobs loves to play with opposites. For Spring, he worked all those elements together into a collection that was sweet but with a hint of a hard edge—like a debutante who knows the bartender's name, or like Exene Cervenka, the lead singer of L.A. punk band X, whose songs made up the bulk of the night's soundtrack. Jacobs brings in retro references both obliquely and directly; this season, he picked up bits from the cocktail-shaker days of the fifties and sixties: tiny bows and rolled collars, woozy polka-dot prints, "cocktail" dresses made from lace and satin. But despite its knowing dalliance with the past, this was a collection rooted very firmly in the here and now.

A blue denim jacket and a chiffon crocktail dress, applied triad in the pattern of the dress, contrasting with RED ankle boots.

The appearance of Achromatic Color Scheme is a must in Marc Jacobs' every collection.

The colors used in these two outfits harmonize with each other, the pattern used Split Complimentary Color Scheme, Jacobs always used this color scheme to project beach, summer, Hawaii and sunshine.

FALL WINTER 2003

This season, Jacobs is clearly feeling very mod. His show, set to churning punk rock (X-Ray Spex's "Oh Bondage" kicked off the soundtrack), was a color-splashed paean to pop, with overt references to the sixties space-age designs of Courrèges, Paco Rabanne, and Rudi Gernreich. Minidresses and jumpers in various patchwork combinations of orange, blue, beige, white, pink, violet, and red came dashing down the runway, detailed with felted seams and circle pockets and worn with contrasting hose and sweet little pumps. It was cheerful and chock-full of energy and color; but all the literal references to past fashions verged on re-creation, rather than the renewal for which Jacobs is justly famous.

Analogous Color Scheme is used, projecting a elegance feeling as purple leggings and lilac t shirt are added.

Complimentary Color Scheme is used, which give us a feeling of optimistic, cheerful and smart. And this is match with the theme!

I really like looking at Jacobs to play magic, you are reading my blog continuously you will know what I mean. Colors on his hand become vital when he want to express something. The above, Principle of order is once again applied, and the color is again, RED, ORANGE, BLUE and PURPLE. It also give us a feeling of optimistic, cheerful and sophisticated.

SUMMARY:
In 2003, the color schemes that Jacobs always use are Achromatic Color Scheme, Principle of order and Analogous Color Scheme. The most impressed me is the Principle of Order Jacobs used to project cheerful. And I discover one thing is that, Jacobs has all the literal references to past fashions verged on re-creation, rather than the renewal for which Jacobs is justly famous.
